November 13: Arab Media Watch adviser Sami Ramadani spoke at the Iraq Occupation Focus Annual General Meeting on "Prospects for Iraq under Obama" at the Indian YMCA in London


October 24: Arab Media Watch adviser Dina Matar spoke at the launch of the Middle East Journal of Culture & Communication, of which she is an editor, at SOAS, London.

October 24: Arab Media Watch adviser Dr. Ghada Karmi spoke at the UK Launch of the Founding Charter of International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network at Trinity United Reformed Church, London.

October 9: AMW supported a Memorial for Mahmoud Darwish held to celebrate the life of the late Palestinian poet laureate at Kensington Town Hall, London.

October 7: Arab Media Watch adviser Haifa Zangana spoke at a Public Meeting on Iraqi Art at SOAS, London.


September 22: Arab Media Watch organised a Talk, Q&A and Book Launch for Forty Years in Sculpture - by Mona Saudi at the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce in London.

September 11: Arab Media Watch Chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi spoke at a seminar on Integration vs Multiculturalism at St Brides Church, London.


July 19: Arab Media Watch advisers Haifa Zangana and Sami Ramadani spoke at a conference on Justice for Iraq at the United Reformed Church, London.


June 28: Arab Media Watch adviser Mr Hasan al Khalil spoke about expatriate voting in Lebanese elections at the University of Westminster.


May 28 / 29: AMW Director Dr Judith Brown spoke about in opinion engineering in the media at a conference in London on the "Discrimination of Minorities in the Media"

May 25: AMW organised the UK premiere of veteran director Yousry Nasrallah's film The Aquarium, held at the Institut Français in South Kensington.

May 25: AMW supported the screening of the award-winning film L'Esquive at the Institut Français in South Kensington.

May 24: AMW supported a preview and Q&A with director Abdellatif Kechiche's award-winning new film La Graine et le Mulet (Couscous) at the Institut Français in South Kensington.

May 21: New book The Palestinian Question in International Law edited by AMW adviser Victor Kattan was launched at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, London.

May 15: AMW adviser Dina Matar spoke about Memory as Struggle at a conference entitled Palestine - 60 years of dispossession and resistance at the University of East London.


April 29: Arab Media Watch member George Rishmawi spoke at a screening of film Occupation 101 at Stockwell Community Centre, London.

April 22: Arab Media Watch chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi led a workshop entitled Using the Power of the Media aimed at improving media interaction skills at The Arab-British Centre, London.

April 11: Arab Media Watch adviser Haifa Zangana organized a 5th Anniversary Vigil for Iraq outside the US Embassy in London.

April 6: AMW organized a screening and Q&A with directors Molly Bingham and Steve Connors of "Meeting Resistance" about the Iraqi insurgency at the Frontline Club in London.


March 18: Arab Media Watch adviser Dr Ghada Karmi spoke at a dinner lecture entitled "60 Years of Damage - Israel & the Arab World Since 1948" at the Sloane Club, London.

March 18: AMW supported a screening of the new film by Mohammed Alatar, Jerusalem - East Side Story at the Curzon Cinema, London.

March 3: AMW adviser Haifa Zangana and AMW member Lubna Samara spoke on a panel at a film & discussion on "Health & Environmental Catastrophe in Iraq" at SOAS, London.


February 22 -March 2: AMW co-organised a major film festival entitled Women's Cinema from Tangiers to Tehran held at various venues across London.

February 14: AMW adviser Dina Matar spoke at SOAS as part of the Nakba60 Campaign: Israeli Apartheid Week on “European Media: Complicity and “Neutrality””.

February 6: AMW adviser Chris Doyle took part in a panel discussion at The Foreign Press Assocation titled “Palestine in Perspective - 60 Years”


January 29: AMW organised a double book launch & panel discussion: Iraq - War, Resistance & Defeat at the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce. The event, chaired by Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi, launched Defeat: Why They Lost Iraq - by Jonathan Steele and City of Widows: An Iraqi Woman's Account of War and Resistance - by Haifa Zangana.

January 26: AMW supported an International Day of Action titled “End the Siege on Gaza.”

November 30: AMW adviser Dr. Dina Matar chaired a discussion at a conference held at the Royal Holloway University of London on “The Cultural Politics of 'Terror' in the Middle East.”

November 29: Arab Media Watch chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi chaired  a discussion between Abdel Bari Atwan of Al Quds Al Arabi, and Mina Al-Oraibi of Asharq Al Awsat, about their varied experiences on reporting the region, held at the School of Oriental and African Studies.

November 28: AMW supported a lobby of Parliament titled “End Israeli Occupation - Peace For All.”

November 24: AMW organised a concert at St. Barnabas Church, Pimlico, involving internationally celebrated musicians performing compositions by renowned Arab composers from Egypt, Syria, Morocco, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan.

November 17 - Arab Media Watch adviser Ghada Karmi chaired a discussion on "The historical roots of the One State idea" at a conference at SOAS entitled "Challenging the Boundaries - A Single State in Palestine/Israel."

November 17 - Arab Media Watch adviser Sami Ramadani spoke at an event en titled "War, Truth & the Media Today" at the London School of Economics.



October 27 - Arab Media Watch adviser Haifa Zangana spoke at an event on "The Plight of the Iraqi People Under Occupation" at the United Reformed Church in Camden.

October 11 - AMW Chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi interviewed Arab novelist and journalist Elias Khouri about his work at the French Institute, London.

October 3 - Arab Media Watch adviser Chris Doyle chaired a public meeting entitled "Israel/Palestine - Is a 2-State Solution Still Possible?" at St Michael & All Angels Parish Hall, Chiswick.



September 20 - Arab Media Watch adviser Rami Khoury spoke at a Conference on "Media & Image Change for the Middle East Post 9/11" at the School of Government and International Affairs, Durham, Thursday/ Friday,



August 30 - Arab Media Watch organised the launch of "Voice of Hezbollah: The Statements of Sayed Hassan Nasrallah" at an event entitled "Lebanon - One Year On" at the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce. Panellists were Clancy Chassay, Lebanon correspondent, The Guardian, Nicholas Noe, Editor, Voice of Hezbollah, Samia Nakhoul – Reuters Middle East news editor and Ramsay Short, former Lebanon correspondent, Daily Telegraph. The discussion was chaired by Arab Media Watch Chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi.



July 12 - Arab Media Watch adviser Sami Ramadani spoke at an Iraq Occupation Focus Meeting.

July 5 - AMW organised an event at the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce entitled 'What Now for Palestine?' chaired by Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi featuring a panel including Mary Dejevsky, Editorial writer and columnist, The Independent, Khaled Hroub, Al Jazeera presenter, author of "Hamas: A Beginner's Guide," director of the Arab Media Project at Cambridge University and Zaki Chehab, Political editor, Al Hayat and LBC, author of "Inside Hamas: The Untold Story of Militants, Martyrs and Spies."


June 20 - AMW Adviser Dr Garda Khami launched her new book 'Married to Another Man: Israel's Dilemma in Palestine.'

June 18 - AMW Chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi chaired a discussion on Palestine at a conference on the Middle East & the Media. AMW adviser Chris Doyle also spoke on Islamophobia in the UK and Israel.

June 16 - AMW Chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi spoke at a Conference held at SOAS entitled 'Golan - Ending Occupation, Establishing Peace.'

June 14 - AMW organised an event at the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce entitled 'The Arab Diplomatic 'Surge' - Causes, Effects & Prospects' featuring a panel of Ian Black - Middle East editor, The Guardian, Michael Binyon - Chief foreign editorial writer, The Times, His Excellency Gehad Madi - Egyptian Ambassador to the UK, Ghayth Armanazi - Former head of the Arab League in London, director of the Syrian Media Centre, Arab Media Watch adviser, and chaired by Baroness Symons - Former Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

June 5 - Arab Media Watch adviser Karma Nabulsi spoke at an event involving a screening of "The Iron Wall" by Mohammed Alatar, and panel discussion.

June 4 - Arab Media Watch adviser Haifa Zangana spoke at an event organised by Iraq Occupation Focus entitled 'Unravelling the Occupation of Iraq.'

June 2 - AMW Adviser Sami Ramadani spoke at a conference at Congress House on issues related to international workers' rights, trade unionism and global solidarity.

June 2 - AMW member Riyad Tibi spoke at an event organised by Friends of Lebanon at the Friends Meeting House to commemorate the 7th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Lebanon


May 29 - AMW adviser Dr Ghada Karmi and AMW member Riyad Tibi spoke at a fringe meeting about the academic boycott of Israeli universities

May 2 - AMW Adviser Dr Karma Nabulsi chaired a panel discussion on issues raised by the films at the Palestinian Film Festival at the Barbican.

May 1 - AMW adviser Dr Ghada Karmi spoke at the press launch for the pamphlet 'Why Boycott Israeli Universities?'



April 28 - AMW member Lena El-Malak was an instructor at a two-day workshop on Palestinian refugees and international law.

April 24 - AMW advisers Nadim Shehadi and Karma Nabulsi spoke on the subject of Arab malaise at SOAS. 


March 18 - AMW adviser Sami Ramadani participated in the Iraq Day School held in Manor Gardens.

March 12 - AMW organised and hosted the event Media Coverage of Sectarianism in the Arab World at SOAS, featuring a line-up of senior journalists and broadcasters.

March 10 - AMW Advisor Tahrir Swift spoke on the subject of Race & Racism – Making the State Accountable to Women of Colour at a conference about Race, Rape and Prostitution.


February 26 - AMW hosted the book launch of Failing Peace - Gaza and the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict by distinguished political economist Sara Roy.

February 22 - AMW chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi was in discussion about the Hamas government and its effect on on the lives of Palestinian people at UCL.

February 17 - AMW chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi and advisor Chris Doyle both spoke at an international conference held at Kings College on media coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

February 16 - AMW chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi, director Muna Nashashibi and advisor Guy Gabriel attended the official opening party of Amnesty International's new premises in London. 

February 8 - AMW supported a conference on the Gulf Region held at SOAS, with represntatives from the Saudi Royal Family and many high profile speakers in attendence.

February 7 - AMW chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi addressed delegates at the Saudi Arabian Embassy on media coverage of the Guld Region.

February 2 - AMW member Dina Matar spoke at SOAS on the subject of Israeli ethnocracy.

February 1 -  attended a Human Rights Watch dinner as part of an Arab delegation.


January 31 - Arab Media Watch chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi addressed media students at SOAS in a closed session.

January 27-28 - AMW advisor Dr Karma Nabulsi spoke at a two-day conference held on the subject of the economy and economics of Palestine.

January 23 - AMW advisor Haifa Zangana and AMW member Justin Alexander both spoke at a public meeting held at the Commons on the future of Iraq.

January 20 - AMW advisor Chris Doyle spoke at a conference on the future of Arab Christianity in the Middle East. 

January 18 - AMW advisor Ghada Karmi spoke at an event  entitled 'Palestine: The Internal Battle' witrh other distinguished speakers. 

January 18 - AMW chairman Sharif Nashashibi spoke at an internal BBC conference about BBC reporting of the Middle East.  

January 15 - AMW chariman Sharif Nashashibi debated the motion 'This house believes that Israeli withdrawal to the 1967 borders will lead to peace and stability in the Middle East' at UCL with Roey Gilad of the Israeli Embassy, and Lord Janner.

January 9 - AMW advisor Dr Karma Nabulsi gave a talk on a new research project about Palestinian refugee communities living in exile in the Middle East, Europe and further afield.

November 27 - AMW advisor Dr Karma Nabulsi was keynote speaker at the launch of Palestinian Awareness Week at SOAS on the subject of Palestinian identity.

November 22 - AMW patrons Tim Llewellyn and Dr Ghada Karmi were part of a panel discussion and book launch entitled "The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine".

November 18 - AMW advisor Sami Ramadani took part in a strategy gathering entitled "Ending the Occupation of Iraq".

November 4 - AMW chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi and advisor Dr Karma Nabulsi, along with former MP Tony Benn, Palestinian Ambassador Manuel Hassassian and others, were speakers at a national student day school at the London School of Economics.

November 1 - AMW chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi was a speaker with Jonny Paul, UK correspondent for the Jerusalem Post, at a Brent Labour ward meeting on the Arab-Israeli conflict.


October 30 - AMW patron Tim Llewellyn and advisor Sami Ramadani were part of a panel including Independent regular columnist Yasmin Alibhai-Brown and others at an event entitled "Taking Sides: The Media and the War on Terror".

October 18 - AMW organised a talk and book launch of "Hamas: A Beginner's Guide" by Al Jazeera's Khaled Hroub. Details are at:

October 16 - AMW advisor Dr Karma Nabulsi was a speaker alongside Israeli historian Avi Shlaim at an event in Oxford University entitled "Israel's War in Gaza and Lebanon".

October 10 - AMW member Chris Doyle was a speaker at an event entitled "Can the UN Bring Real Security to the Middle East".


September 19 - AMW advisor Dr Karma Nabulsi was a speaker at an event entitled "Justice in Palestine, Peace in the Middle East".

September 14 - AMW chairman was a keynote speaker on "Drawing the Line Between Xenophobia and Legitimate Comment" at a day conference entitled "Xenophobia and Disinformation in the Media". Other speakers and panellists came from Al Sharq Al Awsat, Al Jazeera, the Guardian, the Times, Al Hayat and the Daily Mail.

September 6 - AMW chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi was a speaker at a Stop the War Coalition event entitled "Troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan, Hands off Lebanon".


August 29 - AMW advisor Dr Karma Nabulsi was part of a panel discussing "The 'New' Middle East: Reflections and Implications on Where the Region is Heading".

August 25 - AMW organised a reception for acclaimed Syrian actor Ghassan Massoud, who starred as Saladin in Ridley Scott's Hollywood epic Kingdom of Heaven.


July 10 - AMW member Dr Dina Matar was among a distinguished panel of speakers at a conference entitled "The Al Jazeera Phenomenon".

July 7 - AMW patron Dr Ghada Karmi addressed  the Marxism 2006 conference entitled "The Nakba and the Creation of Israel".


May 23 - An AMW delegation consisting of chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi and directors Muna Nashashibi and Victor Kattan met with the new UK Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett.

May 14 - AMW adviser Dr Karma Nabulsi spoke about "Mobilizing Against Dispossession in Palestine: The Liberation Movement in Exile" at a conference at the School of Oriental and African Studies entitled "The Nakba: Beyond Remembering".


April 11-13 - Chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi was AMW's delegate at the Sixth Doha Forum on Democracy, Development and Free Trade.


March 21 - AMW patron Dr Ghada Karmi was part of a distinguished panel of speakers at a seminar organised by the Palestinian Return Centre entitled "Toward an Effective Role for Palestinians Abroad in Supporting Economic Independence in Palestine".

March 11 - AMW advisor Dr Karma Nabulsi spoke on refugee rights at the Palestine Solidarity Campaign's trade union conference entitled "Palestinian Workers Challenging the Occupation".

March 7 - AMW advisor Sami Ramadani was part of a distinguished panel of speakers at an event organised by the Stop the War Coalition entitled "The Media, Islamophobia and the War on Terror". Other speakers included the Guardian's Jonathan Steele, the Independent's Mark Steel, Yvonne Ridley of the Islam Channel and Tim Lezard, president of the National Union of Journalists.


February 28 - AMW patron Tim Llewellyn was a speaker at an event at the House of Commons entitled "Winning or Losing the Hearts and Minds War?" Other speakers were Najm Jarrah of the SOAS Arab Media Unit, and Steve Tatham, Royal Navy Spokesman during the 2003 Iraq war and author of "Losing Arab Hearts and Minds: The Coalition, Al Jazeera and Muslim Public Opinion".

February 28 - AMW chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi was a speaker at an event organised by the LSE Arabic Society entitled "Ethical Limits to the Media: Perspectives on Press Freedom". Other speakers were Dr. Dina Matar of the SOAS Media Department, and Bart Cammaerts of the LSE Media Department.

February 6-7 - AMW director Muna Nashashibi represented the organisation at a symposium in Istanbul, Turkey, entitled "Gender Equality and Political Participation in the Middle East and North Africa".

February 2 - AMW advisor Dr. Karma Nabulsi of Oxford University gave a talk at London's School of Oriental and African Studies on "Palestine 2006: The Politics of Democratic Change".


January 30 - AMW member Chris Doyle gave a talk at Durham University on "Israel/Palestine: Settling for Peace?".

January 28 - AMW advisor Tahrir Swift was a speaker at the annual conference of Students Against the War, and took part in the media workshop.

January 21 - AMW director Muna Nashashibi representated the organisation at a conference entitled "Crisis and Challenge: Christians in the Middle East".
