Thank Times correspondent James Hider! Friday, June 29, 2007 (1132 reads)
Please take a minute to thank Times correspondent James Hider for an article on 28 June 2007 entitled "Checkpoints could be first target for peacemaker Blair," which highlights arguably the most pervasive yet least reported aspect of Israel's occupation. This is particularly noteworthy in a newspaper that is editorially pro-Israel.

Thank Andrew Alexander & Daily Mail! Friday, June 22, 2007 (1364 reads)
Please take a minute to thank Daily Mail regular columnist Andrew Alexander for an excellent piece today (22 June 2007) entitled "Delving inside the mind of a suicide bomber."
Arab Media Watch has not chosen this item because of the topic of suicide bombings, but because Alexander provides legitimate criticism of Israeli, US and British policy vis-a-vis Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon, and the Arab world in general. He also highlights the plight of Palestinian and Iraqi refugees (the former in particular receiving hardly any media attention).
Incidentally, Alexander is a speaker at AMW's fundraising dinner on 8 September - all the more reason to write in!

Thank Emma Williams & Daily Telegraph! Wednesday, June 06, 2007 (916 reads)
Please take a moment to thank the Daily Telegraph for an excellent commentary on 6 June 2007 by Emma Williams entitled "40 years on, Israel remains a prisoner," about the legacy of the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
It is a welcome surprise to see something like this in a newspaper that is usually and traditionally pro-Israel, and comes a month after another excellent article in the Telegraph about the discrimination faced by Israel's Arab citizens, about which we also issued an Action Alert.
As such, it is very important that the newspaper knows that such content is necessary, appreciated and should continue, so please write in.

Complain to Melanie Phillips & Daily Mail! Monday, June 04, 2007 (1873 reads)
Please complain to the Daily Mail and regular columnist Melanie Phillips about an article by her, published on 4 June 2007, entitled "A deplorable decision which shows that Britain's academic elite has taken leave of its senses."
Whatever your views on boycotting Israel, which Phillips is vehemently against and which is the opening subject of this article, she then provides woefully inaccurate, deeply offensive views on the Arab-Israeli conflict.

About
Action Alerts are issued no more than twice a week, in response to particularly good or bad reporting of Arab issues. They are designed to hone, galvanise and focus the lobbying capability of members and the public, and thus our effectiveness, where and when it is most needed. They are also suited to those who do not have time to engage the media everyday.
