The July 20 edition of the Guardian included an article on the crisis in Sudan by Jeevan Vasagar and Ewen MacAskill, with the racist headline "Arab women singers complicit in rape, says Amnesty report".
The article can be read in full at:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,3604,1264865,00.html
The Amnesty report, that more accurately describes these singers as "Hakama" or "Janjawid women", can be read at:
http://web.amnesty.org/library/index/engafr540762004
The headline is loaded, provocative, and inaccurately suggests that all Arab women from Morocco to Lebanon are somehow involved in the atrocities in Sudan. Surely it would have been be more appropriate and accurate to say "Janjaweed (militia) women singers complicit in rape".
Since its publication, this article has been linked to by various anti-Arab websites and has attracted many racist comments. Please urge the Guardian to be more accurate and responsible with its language.
