During the week of 16-22 August 2010, the Daily Express published a letter by Arab Media Watch chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi correcting a glaring factual inaccuracy by columnist Frederick Forsyth about Israel's blockade of Gaza. The newspaper initially did not publish the letter, which was written on 11 June, but did so after the Press Complaints Commission upheld a complaint by Nashashibi.
AMW adviser Tahrir Swift wrote to the Guardian and BBC about their coverage of Iraq; and AMW adviser Guy Gabriel wrote to the Express in response to Forsyth criticising the level of donations from the Muslim world for victims of the Pakistan floods. Gabriel highlighted the huge sums given by Saudi Arabia.

The Committee to Protect Journalists calls on the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) led by Masoud Barzani, president of the Kurdish Regional Government, to drop a defamation complaint against an opposition weekly, Rozhnama. The complaint, filed under Saddam Hussein-era criminal statutes, seeks US$1 billion in damages and the closing of the newspaper.

IFJ mourns loss of journalist killed in Lebanon border clash Tuesday, August 03, 2010 (108 reads)

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) today said that the killing of a journalist in clashes between Israeli and the Lebanese troops has highlighted the continuing dangers facing journalists trying to cover the world's longest-running conflict.
Assaf Abu Rahhal, working for Lebanon's Al-Akhbar newspaper, was reportedly killed today in the fighting which erupted along the Israel-Lebanon border. He was killed when a shell landed next to him.
A journalist working for the Lebanese TV outlet Al-Manar was wounded in the exchange of fire which left three Lebanese soldiers dead.
