During the week of 19-25 October 2009, Arab Media Watch published a study on media coverage of the Goldstone report on Gaza, which was published by the Global Arab Network; and the Evening Standard published a letter by AMW adviser Chris Doyle, on Tony Blair, the Middle East and the EU presidency.

AMW chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi filed a complaint with the Press Complaints Commission against the Daily Express for failing to publish a letter pointing out that, contrary to a claim by Padraic Flanagan, Bethlehem and Jericho are not part of Israel.

AMW met with the BBC, Al Jazeera English, Bloomberg, and the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office; the FCO invited Nashashibi to meet with Minister Ivan Lewis; and Israel's Reut Institute requested a meeting with Nashashibi.

BBC Arabic invited Nashashibi to be a guest on BBC Xtra.

AMW arranged for adviser Victor Kattan to become a contributor to the Guardian's Comment is Free section.

London Palestine Film Festival 2010: Call for submissions

The 2010 Palestine Film Festival in London will open in April 2010 at London's Barbican Arts Centre. The festival, the largest of its kind in Europe, showcases an engaging selection of feature films, shorts, experimental work, animations and documentaries of social, cultural and political themes related to Palestine. The Palestine Film Foundation invites filmmakers from all over the world to participate. Films are selected on the basis of cinematic quality, the film's contribution to a diverse festival in terms of issues and ideologies, and cinematic styles and genres. The programme features both new and older films.

AMW media interactions: 5-11 October 2009

During the week of 5-11 October 2009, Arab Media Watch had a meeting with the Arab League; AMW announced to the media the launch reception the All Parties Parliamentary Group on the Arab League; AMW invited senior British and Arab media figures to attend a press conference with Arab League Secretary General Amre Moussa; and AMW approached major broadcasters to arrange interviews with him.

The BBC interviewed AMW director Muna Nashashibi about Arab reaction to Barack Obama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize; and a freelance documentarian working for the French channel ARTE requested an interview with AMW chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi about the Arab community in London.

The Independent and the Somerset Guardian published letters on Palestine by AMW adviser Dr Judith Brown; AMW chairman Sharif Hikmat Nashashibi wrote to the Daily Express about Palestine; AMW encouraged its Lebanese members to write to the Sun about a disparaging comment against Lebanon by columnist Jon Gaunt; and AMW adviser Tahrir Swift wrote to the Independent about Iraq.

AMW organised a launch event for the new book by AMW adviser Victor Kattan, entitled "From Coexistence to Conquest: International Law and the Origins of the Arab-Israeli Conflict, 1891-1949." Attendees included the current and former Palestinian Ambassadors to the UK; representatives from Amnesty International and the Egyptian, Kuwaiti and Sudanese embassies; and journalists from the BBC, the Institute for War and Peace Reporting, the Saudi Press Agency, Middle East Online and the Islam Channel.

During the week of 28 September - 4 October 2009, Arab Media Watch had meetings with Al Jazeera English and the Arab League.

AMW helped a freelance journalist working with Channel 4 News to find an experienced producer who has worked in Yemen; and AMW gave a list of contacts in Israel / Palestine to a correspondent writing for various mainstream British publications, who is moving there. "That looks great and will really give me a headstart when I land," he replied.

AMW adviser Dr Judith Brown summarised the results of a complaint she made against BBC coverage of Israel / Palestine.

Al Jazeera English published a commentary by AMW adviser Rime Allaf, entitled "Netanyahu's 'yes we can' moment."
