Arab Media Watch Chairman Sharif Nashashibi was interviewed on BBC Radio 5 Live on May 19 at 6.30 pm about the recent suicide bombings in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.
Nashashibi pointed out that while media coverage of the bombings is extensive, there has been scant reporting of Israeli murders, attacks and other provocations between April 30 (the day the 'roadmap' to peace was published) and the suicide bombings of May 17.
A list of some of the provocations, which Nashashibi mentioned in the interview, can be viewed here.
He stressed that while suicide bombings are tragic, they are an inevitable but unfortunate consequence of Israel's actions, and as such, Israel is responsible for derailing any chance for peace.
He added that the deaths of Palestinian civilians should be no less newsworthy than those of Israeli civilians.
When asked what course of action should be taken now, Nashashibi said that Israel's government should support the peace process in deeds and words, cease its provocations, and stop holding talks hostage by demanding a total end to resistance against occupation as a prerequisite. This, he concluded, was a cynical ploy designed to completely avoid entering negotiations
